Ridgefield to New York to Dallas to Santiago
On December 16, 2002 we finally did it - we left for Antarctica. The trip of a lifetime! (OK - yet another trip of a lifetime...) We did quite a bit of research before settling on Society Expeditions’ World Discoverer. We selected it based on itinerary, size, and appointments.
Snow falling, transit strike in NY threatened, one hour to change planes in Dallas to make our connection to Santiago and the boat… NO. But a change to an earlier flight out of NY meant one of us had to fly coach. We did what any happily married couple would do – flipped a coin. I brought Larry back a glass of wine…

Santiago
A short bus tour of Santiago and a handicraft shopping area made us both happy we planned an extra few days here at the end of this trip! Meeting our fellow guests did lead to one big surprise though – this is not an English cruise. It’s a German cruise ship with a primarily German-speaking crew and lecturers.
Next... Ushuaia, Argentina.
