Never heard of Juan Fernandez Island? Maybe you’ll recognize it by it’s other name - Robinson Crusoe Island.
Juan Fernandez is off the coast of Chile and very difficult to get to. First, a two hour plane ride... which lands on the top of a mountain on a very short strip.
Then, a hike down the mountain to a pier to take an open boat on a two hour ride around the island to where the “town” of around 400 people is.
So how did we come to be here? Blame our friends Mimi and Brian who told us about it and invited us to join them. We did! It was an adventure.
The accomodations (Pangal) left much to be desired, but the common area, the view, and the food were all great. Mimi claimed to have caught dinner...
Alexander Selkirk was the “real” Robinson Crusoe. We think Friday was a human-sized mosquito (we certainly fed some that big!). Brian and Arnie were the only ones with the energy to climb up to view Selkirk’s lookout. You’ll find their photos in the slide show below.
Please be aware that the slides are JPG files, not GIFs, so if you’re on a dial-up line, it’s may take a while to watch.
