Arnie in Trafalgar SquareThe most common questions we get are:

  • Why are you carrying a Teddy Bear?
  • What exactly are you doing with that bear?
  • Why are you photographing him on that?
  • Why????

Theodore at Luxembourg City HallWhat no one asks, but most people probably think is:

  • Are you NUTS????

To answer the last question first, No. I prefer the British term: “eccentric”.

Theodore on the tomb of Dom PerignonThis all started when I was a little girl - and HATED having my photo taken. Theodore was far more photogenic than me, and was always willing to pose for as long as it took for my Dad to get the perfect photo. Theodore at OktoberfestTheodore traveled around the world for thirty-plus years with me until he disappeared while skiing in Austria.

Theodore was a handsome yellow Steiff bear with his original light blue ribbon tied around his neck. He was last seen in May of 1996 skiing on the Stubaier Gletscher. If you ever find him, the reward will be substantial.

Very shortly after Theodore disappeared, I received a new teddy - Arnie - from a very dear friend, Peter Duray. I had to promise that I would continue taking photos and creating books and collages for friends with him. Peter died about three weeks later. I’ve kept my promise - and Arnie at Tower Bridgeexpanded to a web site.

Things got even sillier when I met Larry. During one of our trips to London, he went shopping with Arnie while I was at work. I came home to find Arnie in a kilt and Larry informing me that he was tired of traveling with a bare-naked bear. Their trips to the tailor, The English Teddy Bear Company, continue to this day.

When Larry and I got married in 1999, Arnie was our ring bear-er.
